In the ancient world as well at the present time, marriages among people from different ethnic groups, religion, language
and culture can represent a path to integration. Within the family, individuals deal with ethnic and social identification
issues establishing, mainly through the education of children, paths to new identities and self awareness. During the two
day meeting, held in Verona in December 1st ad 2nd 2011, historians, archaeologists, anthropologists, linguistics and sociology
scholars have dealt with the topic of mixed marriages from different disciplinary perspectives ("synchronic" sessions) and
in relation with various historical periods (diachronic sessions)”
