The survey of the Aurelia’s landscape between Civitavecchia and St. Severa is the perfect feld of work in order to understand the changes during the Roman Age, Late Antiquity and the Middle Age in this territories.The use of traditional sources such as classical authors and post classical documents combined with the results of archeological excavations and a new survey, give us a diferent way to follow the changes that afected the roman viability in relationship with the near centers showing a new hypothesis at the traditional picture of decadence.
