L'articolo discute del ruolo dei consumatori e delle comunità di pratica nei processi di innovazione delle imprese, mettendo in evidenza le dinamiche sociali connesse alla produzione e scambio di conoscenza entro le comunità. Rispetto all'attenzione data da studi e ricerche all'innovazione tecnologica, viene approfondita l'innovazione di natura simbolica e i processi creativi sottostanti legati alla sfera comunitaria.
