Introduction or preface
La mortalità per cancro negli ultimi anni è in diminuzione. Ciò non sempre significa anche miglioramento della qualità di vita dei pazienti. Il distress correlato alla patologia oncologica e ai suoi trattamenti può gravare negativamente sulla sessua-lità e la relazione di coppia, anche per molti anni. Per migliorare il benessere psico-fisico della persona, è importante riuscire a mantenere e recuperare una sessualità soddisfacente anche dopo la malattia. Sentirsi ancora attivi e desiderati sessualmente, si ripercuote positivamente sull'immagine di sé e aiuta a ridurre il peso della malattia. Nell'articolo, vengono presi in esame gli studi sul rapporto tra malattia oncologica e sessualità negli adulti al fine di tracciare una proposta di intervento psico-sessuologico integrato a quello medico in ambito ospedaliero.
