La sicurezza nell'ambiente di lavoro rientra tra i fattori critici della qualita delle prestazioni sanitarie. Essa, infatti, influenza tanto la produttivita del professionista sanitario quanto il benessere dell'assistito. Nella maggior parte dei casi, il tema della sicurezza sul lavoro in ambito sanitario e stato affrontato da prospettiva micro, con un focus sulla relazione medicopaziente e sulle conseguenze della non sicurezza sul benessere di tali attori. Dall'altro lato, le ripercussioni della non sicurezza sulle dinamiche gestionali e organizzative sono state esaminate sporadicamente. Viepiu, si riscontra una scarsa consapevolezza in merito all'importanza della sicurezza sul lavoro ai fini del rafforzamento delle condizioni di sostenibilita delle organizzazioni sanitarie. Nel tentativo di colmare tale gap, il Centro Interdipartimentale per la Ricerca di Diritto, Economia e Management della Pubblica Amministrazione (CIRPA) dell'Universita degli Studi di Salerno, in partnership con l'Istituto Nazionale Assicurazione Infortuni sul Lavoro (INAIL), ha avviato un percorso di ricerca finalizzato alla formulazione e all'implementazione di un approccio euristico per l'analisi delle implicazioni economiche della sicurezza e della non sicurezza sul lavoro nel contesto sanitario. Il presente lavoro sintetizza le evidenze desunte da un caso di studio condotto nelle fasi iniziali del progetto di ricerca, che ha coinvolto un'azienda ospedaliera di rilievo nazionale inserita nel Sistema Sanitario Nazionale (SSN) italiano. I risultati dello studio evidenziano come gli investimenti in sicurezza sul lavoro potrebbero condurre a significativi risparmi di spesa, generando - indirettamente - un miglioramento delle condizioni di sostenibilita organizzativa. Il miglioramento della sicurezza sul lavoro potrebbe attivare un circuito virtuoso di abbattimento dei costi che insorgono per effetto dell'evento infortunistico e di miglioramento della qualita delle prestazioni di assistenza.
