What is mEDRA?

mEDRA is the multilingual European DOI Registration Agency, officially appointed by the IDF (International DOI Foundation, www.doi.org) on July 1, 2003.
mEDRA project was born in 2002 within the eContent programme of the UE Commission.
During the pilot phase (July 2003-June 2004), mEDRA assigned more than 30.000 DOIs to publications from its early adopters, among which Il Mulino Publishing, Casalini Digital Division, SIF - Italian Society of Physics, CNIPA - Italian National Centre for IT in the Public Administration.
Both the success of the pilot phase and the interest demonstrated by publishers convinced Italian Publishers Association (www.aie.it) and the technological partner Cineca (www.cineca.it), to create in September 2004 a company – mEDRA srl – to manage the DOI Agency.

Who are mEDRA partners?

mEDRA gave itself, through the company Siscom (www.sis-com.it), a value-added device towards DOI promotion, training and sales management. For information please contact info@sis-com.it.
Moreover, significant partnerships for DOI promotion have been set up with international companies operating in the publishing field, such as MVB (www.mvb-online.de) and Digilibri (www.digilibri.com) in Germany, Editrain (www.editrain.com) in Spain, AJE (www.aje.hu) in Hungary.

How mEDRA relates to other DOI Registration Agencies?

mEDRA provides the technological platform for DOI registration to the UK Agency, Nielsen Book Data (www.nielsenbookdata.co.uk).
At last, there is a project under development to make metadata, and therefore services, interoperable between mEDRA, CrossRef (www.crossref.org) and CAL (www.copyright.com.au), the DOI RAs respectively for the American and Australian market.
